Christy Wheeland, executive director with the Coweta Chamber of Commerce, has graduated from the Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce Executives’ (OCCE) Chamber Management Institute (CMI).

Wheeland was one of 29 graduates recognized at OCCE’s 2022 Annual Conference and Awards Banquet held last week at the Cherokee Casino in Tahlequah.

CMI sessions took place over a three-month period and covered chamber of commerce fundamentals, financials, board development, economic and community development, membership recruitment and retention, event planning, non-dues revenue sources and communication strategies.

“CMI is an extremely valuable program for the professional development of chamber of commerce professionals,” said 2022 OCCE Board Chair Krystal Crockett. “Through the years, this program has equipped hundreds of professionals from across the state with the tools and knowledge to lead their chambers and communities.”

Wheeland joined the Coweta Chamber as executive director in January of 2021. She previously spent 33 years in the community as editor and reporter for the local newspaper.

“CMI programs provide a wealth of knowledge and information to help me better serve our chamber members and investors,” Wheeland said. “The opportunity to collaborate and share best practices with my peers has generated new ideas to help the Coweta Chamber continue its trajectory of growth and strength as an organization.

“Thank you to my Coweta Chamber Board of Directors for investing in professional development opportunities through OCCE,” she added.
