This week in South Tulsa history.

Died September 4, 2011, at age 56

Lee Roy Selmon died on September 4, 2011, at age 56. He was born in Eufaula, Alabama, and played high school football there. He went on to star at the University of Oklahoma. In 1976, he was drafted first overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played nine seasons with the team and made six Pro Bowl appearances. After retirement, he worked in athletics administration and helped develop the program at the University of South Florida. Selmon was inducted into both the College Football and Pro Football Halls of Fame. His early years in Eufaula helped shape his approach to football and life. His passing was marked by tributes from both the sports and academic communities. He left behind a legacy of leadership and service.
