The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office charged a man with DUI-great bodily injury and assault with a dangerous weapon following an incident at a party on April 25.
The police identified the man as Santiago Canseco-Cruz. As reported by Lori Fullbright of News On 6, after a fight at a party, Canseco-Cruz allegedly attempted to flee but instead drove his Tahoe forward into a building, pinning a person and causing internal injuries. Officers found him standing next to the Tahoe with the passenger still inside, while people at the party performed CPR on the pinned victim.
Tulsa County has recorded one of the highest numbers of drunk driving fatalities among Oklahoma counties, according to McIntyre Law. Local data show impaired driving continues to contribute to a significant share of traffic fatalities and serious crashes in the region.
Nationally, 12,429 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving traffic crashes across the United States in 2023. These fatalities represented almost one-third of all traffic crash deaths in the country. An average of one alcohol-impaired driving fatality occurred every 42 minutes that year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office is led by Sheriff Vic Regalado and employs more than 600 personnel. It provides law enforcement, detention and court security services, according to its website.
