Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Dr. Richard Coiner, NEO Outstanding Retired Faculty 2022

NEO will formally honor Coiner during the Outstanding Alumni Banquet on Saturday, Oct 1, at 11am in the Calcagno Family Ballroom.

All alumni and friends of the college are invited to attend the event. Tickets are $25 and $15 for children 12 and younger. Purchase tickets at the door or through neo.edu/homecoming. NEO homecoming festivities will take place Sept 30 through Oct 1, 2022.

Coiner grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, where he was a member of the Voluntary Integration Program. Coiner graduated from the University of Oklahoma with high honors before attending the University of Tulsa Law School. He was inducted into the Order of Curule Chair and served as an article editor for the Tulsa Law Journal.

Coiner has been a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association since 1984 and practiced law with Wallace and Owens from 1984 to 1991. He was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award twice, recognizing him as the best student in ethics and equity. He wrote a scholarly article for the Tulsa Law Journal in 1983 titled, “In Restate of Bovaird: The Ultimate Burden of Estate Taxes in Oklahoma.”

He served on the Miami Integris Hospital Foundation board for 29 years, worked as a Sunday school teacher and senior warden for All Saints Episcopal Church, and was also on the state board of the Episcopal Church of Oklahoma.

Coiner worked at NEO from 1991 to 2021, teaching humanities, German language, art history, music appreciation, art appreciation, cultural anthropology, Oklahoma history, and United States history. He was a faculty sponsor for the Foreign Language Club and a football and basketball booster club member. He is also a member of the Ottawa County Historical Society and Society for American Baseball Research.

Coiner has written two books; “A Dead Marshal” and “Love, War, and Football.” Both are stories of Miami, Oklahoma, and Ottawa County.
